When mom and dad bring home the new baby and begin attachment parenting through baby wearing, older siblings can often feel a left out. One way you can make them feel special is to get them a carrier of their own so they can "parent" their doll of stuffed animal. Not only does this include them in your activities with baby, but it also helps to encourage good parenting skills of their own later in life.

Another thing you can try  is to allow your older child some time in the sling (if they will fit) when the baby isn't needing you. This will give them some special time with mom or dad and a closeness that a child often needs when a new baby is in the picture. When I had my second child I would allow my three year old the special treat of occasional "rides" in the sling and even at 35 lbs I was still able to carry him a variety of carriers.

Yes, slings are ok for boys too! If you are one of those parents concerned about "gender appropriate toys", don't worry, a sling is as much for boys as girls. Just think about all the grown up dad's who wear their children in carriers. If you want your son to be a good big brother and grow up to be a caring person and nuturing father then a toy sling is a great idea. Even if your son doesn't play with dolls a stuffed animal or even a real kitten or puppy will fit nicely.

A great gift for any child, a kid sized sling or pouch is a wonderful way for children to learn to love and nurture. Also a good way to include big brother or sister when mom's slinging the new baby.
